I don't believe that I have posted photos of the station from our visit back in late December. The owners were not home at the time so we took our photos from the road, except for two that I took from the neighbors yard after requesting to do so.

This is the station from the street side.

The station from the beach side. The owners added on to this side of the building.

There was a Christmas tree in watch room, but you can't see it in this photo. A good way to decorate such a room for the holidays, IMHO.

Also, not the excape ladder from the second floor. It is not something that I have seen at other stations. I wonder if this is something that built in with the design of the 1882-Type stations?

Stephen, could the escape ladder be due to some more modern fire code? Perhaps someone along the line had seperated the building into two apartments and there had to be a way out for the upstairs folks?

Where is the LSS in comparason to the lighthouse on Oak Island?

By the way, thanks for sharing these.

It is almost directly across from the lighton the beach side and just a bit east of the light toward Fort Casswell.

I'll add to Stephen's wonderful photos...
The Outer Banks Lighthouse Society will be there Aug 29-May 1. We'll have a reception dinner at this wonderful home and a tour of the lighthouse.

I got to visit there last year with a small group of lighthouse friends and we were treated to dinner and a tour of the home. While keeping it as true to it's historical beginnings, it is also a warm and inviting modern day home. It still has the original wood floors, and the tiny door that serves as their front door is an orginial.

Moving from the midwest, the owners had never heard of a lifesaving station, but knew they wanted to purchase a historical home. They have collected a bounty of treasures and artifacts that belonged there orginally, and have been caught up in the history of LSS's and the stories of the men who worked there.

The building has a ghost...a friendly but mischievous one, and you can see the lighthouse light through it's windows.

The home was featured in a HGTV series in 2003, called, "Building character".

P.S.
Did I mention that our group has received permission to do a walking tour of the mysterious Price's Creek range light during this event? On private property, we are the first group granted permission. We'll also go to Baldhead Island.
