Hello everyone from one of your UK correspondents! Just a quick Hi to everyone. Latest news is..... (And this is not a joke!)someone has painted a lighthouse off the coast of Scotland bright pink with yellow spots. Seriously, ..can you imagine it? Scottish Lighthouse board are not impressed as you can imagine and the matter is being dealt with. Have no further news on this at present but am trying to identify said light and will update you all when I have more. Other than that, UK weather not too lovely just now -infact parts of the south are under threat of severe floods -yet again. Fourth time in the last sixth months, not much fun I can tell you. Hope you are all happy and well.
Regards
Fiona.

Pink with yellow spots? That is unbelievable! Is this a large lighthouse? That is some kind of prank!

Someone must have had all together too much free time! It will be interesting to hear more of this story. Kind of like when our very own Mark Wagner went on a binge and modified what used to be called Ocracoke into Ocracow.... Thanks for the UK update! Please keep us informed whats going on over. I, for one, am always interest in whats going on even if it involves a pink lighthouse with yellow spots.... By the way....do you have any idea how many "lights" are located on the British Isles? And how many have you had the opportunity to visit? Thanks.... ------------------ Brent

Hey Digger, did you go on a quick vacation with your paints? Sounds like a keeper needed a vacation!

I had to go looking for more info on this. Turns out it was done by what might be considered a group of lighthouse preservationists protesting the Northern Lighthouse Board's intent to replace the structure with a modern tower. Interestingly, the lighthouse board's major gripe appears to be that it was no longer the same daymark, and therefor it was a danger painted pink. And a new, probably skeletal tower or simple pole, will be a good daymark? Must be into the Scotch, for sure! Here are some links - they are great reading: http://www.ananova.com/news/story/sm_203110.html http://www.thescotsman.co.uk/index.cfm?id=46255&keyword=the http://www.telegraph.co.uk/et?ac=0005793...10/npink10.html http://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/0,,2-81922,00.html http://www.sunday-times.co.uk/news/pages/sti/2001/02/11/stiscosco01003.html Here is Mr. Blobby's home page this one has a pic Dave

Great job of sleuthing, Dave.
Of course there is humor in this story, but then how would we feel if overnight Cape Hatteras' stripes were replaced by a pink and yellow polka-dot daymark?
