From Lighthouse Loon: I don't think it's that easy to take pages out of a spiral binder. Of course I've never tried. I hope it's possible to add pages. I tend to agree with you. I believe that removing and replacing pages is next to impossible. From Paul: But, Bob, if you really want to, you could bring labels to be signed and then place them in the book... Or one big 3 to 4 inch square label for all to sign then attach it to the inside cover when you get home.. This appears to be an excellent idea. I'll try it out in Maine. Which brings me to another point -- how is the book going to be updated? Or won't it? bobo

I don't think a final answer on that has been decided, much of it probably depends on how sales go with the first edition..
Supplements were suggested and updated editions every few years were suggested.. Since this is uncharted territory, we are learning as we go on this and other matters..
The best part for me is that I won't have to re-shoot my entire collection of 720 plus HL items.. I will only have to add the new releases!
Onward to The Land of the Midnight Sun!

What a relief for you, Paul. I can't imagine shooting over 4,000 shots for this first edition!

Sounds like those going to the regional event in Maine should plan on buying it there. All those not going should order it from there local dealer. Of course, it those going to Maine also want to support there local dealer they could buy an extra copy. I'm sure they know someone who would love to get a copy as a Christmas gift.
Looking forward to getting a copy in hand!!!

Then news must be out because my dealer knew about the books and already ordered one for me. I can't remember--when will they be shipped to dealers? Judy

Promise is "October" - not early or late known yet. Of course we're hoping and working to have available as early as possible. We should know in about 2 weeks.

Saw the book again at the St Augustine Regional. I would have loved to get one then! Is the Maine Regional the first place they will be available?

This is a thought. Maybe John and Paul could come up with some kind of an extra (binder?) or something that we could use to keep new updates in as they become available? I know it would be almost impossible to put them in the original book. Just looking ahead!

I think something of the sort has been contemplated, Kay. I know when we were in Tidewater suggestions were made requesting an annual booklet or something that could be kept with the original. I think, at this point, they just want to get the first edition out!

John, Isaw the book they had at St.Augustine & the page on ANCLOTE has so many mistakes it is about three years behind plus the Tarpon Springs group never owned it,it owned by the StatePark Service. I hope this was just a layout book and not the real deal!!!!!

The Anclote copy was reviewed by someone from Friends of.. and the ownership issue was fixed. But for you to find out if it's now absolutely correct, it'll cost you $39.99, my friend.

A handful of the lighthouse histories were reviewed by contacts at the lighthouse organization reponsible.
But not all.
If an organization was listed with a phone number included in the original certificate, I verified the phone number worked. And if I could reach someone, I went over the history by phone and usually sent them a PDF of the page. But if there was no organization or phone number listed, I didn't make contact.
If no one answered or returned my call, I removed the phone number from the copy.
I do recall that Point Fermin, Anclote Key and Concord Point were among the ones with which I communicated.
In some cases, I knew there was a change in ownership or situation (Currituck Beach, for example) and either I or Grace would edit the copy to reflect that.
Among my responsibilities at Harbour Lights now is the preparation of the Certificates, labels and tent cards (starting with the July releases.) No one has commented on these but there are subtle changes. For example, the name and edition size of the lighthouse appears on the FRONT of the certificate now. And the 'signer' is different than in the past.
For the Guide, Grace did an excellent job of researching and writing copy for about 25 new lights that had not had certificates issued and Terry Pepper gave permission for us to edit his excellent and extensive histories for 5-6 of the Great Lakes Lights that had never been Limited Editions.
The folks from Craighill lights also gave permission to edit their histories of the 3 of the 4 channel lights there.
I'm 100% certain that every history is not 100% correct. Some of the certificates are 15 years old.
Let's say that histories weren't researched as well in the early years as they are now. You'll see that in the case of those pieces among the Original 17 and never had a glow -- Sand Island WI, and Cape Blanco OR, for example -- have about 50-word histories.
For others from the Original 17, such as Sandy Hook NJ and Yaquina Head which had GLOWs, we started with the GLOW certificate.
The space available for the histories would, at a maximum, accept about 600 words. Many had less space because of more images being needed on that page.
Of course the information about the lighthouse itself, isn't meant to be a guide-book or a comprehensive history of each light, but rather 'light-reading' for those interested in the Harbour Lights replicas.
While I strived for perfection in the Guide, I must confess I'm imperfect. So expect a few imperfections and look on the bright side, please. I almost 100% certain I didn't leave out any of the 723 products or the 376 lighthouses, lightships, life saving stations, Fresnel lenses, USCG and other ships or accessories. And I'm almost 100% certain that every product picture is correctly labeled.
I'll welcome any rewrites or fact-updating once the book is published and, should the book go into a second-printing down the road, they will be updated at that time.
Anyone interested in seeing the CONTENTS and INDEX? I might post them as a PDF if you are interested. May be some familiar names mentioned in there.

The Official Collectors Guide to Harbour Lights should be the number one item on your Christmas list. I cannot rave enough about it! From what bit I have seen, Grace, I will gladly joint the ravings! It is a BRILLIANT book! Hope there will be some available this side of the big pond! I can think of a few people who would be interested! (and yes I have already told them about it!)
