Thanks.

Here in Jacksonville we are to get 50 mph (60 at beaches) and 5 to 12 inches of rain.
All schools are closed and non-essential gov offices.
Some of the high Bridges will be closed when the winds hit 40 MPH.
Everyone is to stay at home if possible. Where I work at, is open and we are expecting a notice very soon if we are to close down for the day.

Definitely keeping all in mind. This is a funny storm. It's almost like it took a geography lesson...it seems to be wrapping around to hit the whole state from Keys to Panhandle.

Everyone keep safe...

I saw on the news this morning where flooding was very bad, waist deep in some places.

My aunt and 2 cousins are in JAX, along with some folks/friends from my days when I worked for Citibank. I haven't heard from them, I'll have to email or call.

Hope everyone remains safe and are able to stay dry!

The eye (or lack of) will pass approximately 45 miles north of Ocala sometime around 8 AM. We can expext wind gusts to 35 MPH and a LOT of rain (7-8 inches but nothing like the Melborne area with 20-30 inches as reported. We need the rain so that is a blessing for us. What we don't need is wind damage from trees. Hopefully the wind damage will be minimal since we were pruned out during the 3 storms in 2004. Hopefully we will not loose power for 5 days as we did in 2004.

Jacksonville has five bridges closed and 65,000 homes are without power. I am one of the lucky ones with power and I don't have to go to work today. My company closed for the day because of Fay.

Because of its path Fay ended up being a tropical storm instead of a Cat 2 hurricane. If Fay was out in the ocean more and didn’t go over the mountains of Cuba and then followed Key West into Florida, we would have had a Cat 2 or 3 beating at our doors.
Yes many are facing flooding and downed trees, but Fay is also doing a lot of good.
She has been pumping needed rain into Floridas low water tables.

Last night I gave a call to my nephew Mike in Deltona. They were getting pounded with heavy rain all day. The Weather Channel did mention that area as getting the heaviest rains.

Received a dreaded phone call last night about 4 AM from my son that lives on the NW side of Jacksonville. They had a previously lightning struck pecan tree that he was worried about right outside their bedroom window. They had asked their landlord to have it removed about 6 months ago and he still hadn't done it. The landlord doesn't have to worry about having it taken down anymore as Fay toppled it right through the center of the house. Fortunately the house was an older house and was built sometime in the 50's when they knew how to build house with real wood. The tree came through the roof and crashed in 75% of the roof but only penetrated the ceiling drywall in a couple of places. Goes to show you how strong southern yellow pine is when it cures. My son and his wife were in the living room most of the night and were not hurt so we thank the Lord for that. They had already packed their car and truck with their important belongings just in case they had to evacuate so they were also lucky there. They drove to my daughter's house on the SE side of Jacksonville after this and will start looking for a rental sometime today. Their big concern is how much of their personal belongings have been ruined by the rain. They have renter's insurance so they will be covered for monetary purposes but personal items can not have a value put to them. Please keep them in your prayers.

I am glad that your son and daughter-in-law are okay. Besides fileing with the insurance company I beleive they can also file with FEMA for anything not covered by their insurance.

Jacksonville had 80,000 yesterday without power.
16 deaths blamed on Fay but probally not rightly so. 4 deaths from swimming in the ocean during the storm and many from driving acidents. Speading and driving thru deep water would be the bigger blame than Fay.

Rich,

Hoping everything works out well for your son and daughter in law. It was pretty wild in spots in Jax yesterday. We only had a few big branches down here in Middleburg. And our power stayed on! It usually goes off when the sun is shining tho.

My son and daughter in law are safe and sound at my daughter and son in laws house in Jacksonville. They have contacted their insurance company and are looking for a new rental or a temporary by the week/month motel. I'll keep everyone posted. Thanks for your concerns.
