Hello Everyone!

I am returning person to this site from many years ago. I love my lights but due to my husband's love of sunken ships I need to part with some of my HL's. I do not have enough display room to set them up. Anyway I still enjoy lights, and I will hang on to all my MD
lights. I also do volunteer work with a lighthouse group ( not as often as I would Like, since I moved.). I find that is how I enjoy my lights. I want to know how everyone out there enjoys Lights other than collecting
Harbour lights.

Welcome to the Forums again. I enjoy lighthouses as a part of my previous job when I worked on the electronics in them while in the Coast Guard. I worked on mostly the ones in sounthern GA and norther/central FL on the east coast. I hope that you don't have to part with too many of your lights because that is not a fun thing to do.

I enjoy traveling to as many lighthouses as I can get to. That is the spinoff of my HL collecting.

HL's competing with sunken ships? First time I've heard that one, lol! Now those ships have to be taking up way too much room, ha! Welcome back!

I enjoy them by taking photos of them with Gary Martin, Cruise Director of the Lighthouse Photography Forum.

We plan all our vacations and long weekends around visiting the lights. It helps by living so close to the Great Lakes. Of course in the meantime we have our HL collection, and people found out a long time ago if they bought us a gift, anything to do with lighthouses would work. I'm also working on getting better at photographing them.

Welcome back fresnel girl! We take a vacation every year around lighthouses. This year it will be above Chicago. I saw lighthouses before Harbour Lights came around. I got hooked after a visit to The Outer Banks in 1990. Harbour Lights came out the next year and the rest is history!

Hi Fresnel Girl!

As Terry already told you, and as my logon name on here implies, I get a REALLY big kick out of photographing the lights, which of course means that I end up traveling to a lot of them!

There are a number of photos buried among the growing number of threads on the Lighthouse Photography forum. I hope that you'll have the time to look at some of what's there.

Welcome back!

Hi Fresnel Girl,

Welcome back to the Forums. Always great to have more input on the topics in the forums so don't hesitate to jump in and give you insights and wisdom. I too love to photograph lighthouses.I am not very good at it yet but have some pointer from Gary I am dying to try.

For me our Harbour Lights collection is a spin off from our Lighthouse travels. For the past 3 years or so we have always managed to be near a lighthouse while on vacation. I now am trying to aquire the Harbour light of every one I have been to that has been made. With the Florida ones getting so expensive it will take some time to get the LE of Ponce and St. Augustine and Key West. I have a lot to trade now so I hope to find someone that needs what I have.

Hope you didn't have to sell to many of your HL's. Welcome and if you have any questions, post them, We have some very talented people who know a lot about lighthouses. You wont find a better group of people anywhere.

Looking forward to your input.

God Bless,

Dale

Welcome FG! I'm also one who travels to photograph lights. It's given me a great excuse to visit a lot of the coast, and now that I've finally learned how to post photos here, I'll probably be posting some in the forums. You live in Carnegie? I'm originally from the Pburgh area (Connellsville). Hope you're enjoying the area!

Welcome back, Fresnel Girl. This is a great group for motivating you to share your lighthouse experiences with us. Maybe you can tell us more about sunken ships also. Ships sometimes sink because they get off course -- maybe there was no lighthouse at that time and place ?? The Great Lakes have many, many sunken ships, as their storms are often worse than ocean storms. And Lake Champlain off the Vermont and New York coast have lots of wrecks also. There is a maritime museum in Vergennes, VT, which now specializes in research of sunken ships and has displays.

I have been enthusiastic about lighthouses for many, many years, before I knew that such lovely HL miniatures even existed. I do semi-professional photography, and have often photographed lighthouses in many parts of the U.S. My serious photography goes way back into the 1960's, and I tried to find lighthouses to shoot, even before all these lovely books came out that gave driving directions and made it easier to locate them.

Another way that I extended my love of lighthouses was to introduce other people to the wonder of visiting these lights and the importance of them in our country's history, by starting a 6 state club called The New England Lighthouse Lovers. We went on some great Outings, including Portland Head Light, where I convinced the regional Coast Guard commander to shut down the actual light so that our group could climb the tower and go into the lantern room and out onto the walkway. What a trill that was !
It was the first time they had ever done this for the public.

Maybe you can extend your love of lighthouses in a similar way by starting a lighthouse club in your area. It is a great way to make new friends.

Have you been to see the website for the wacko pin yet? This is how those who post on these Forums are helping to preserve a different lighthouse each year. Our slogan: BUY A PIN --- SAVE A LIGHT.

Will look forward to your posts.
