I spent about an hour or so in Ludington yesterday afternoon before my magical trip to Grand Haven. Talk about some WAVES...this lighthouse is harder to make an impression on because it's almost twice the height of the southern Lake Michigan lighthouses - Grand Haven outer fog signal building stands 35 feet, while Ludington stands 57. These two images here will give you an idea of just how forceful the water can be. I had a hard time finding a spot to stay dry - I was 100 feet back from where the shoreline started and I was still getting spray off ankle deep water in the HARBOR! So I climbed a dune (small), hunkered down the tripod into the sand, and plopped myself into the dune grass, and froze my tush to get my shots. I sure wish the light had been better, but the waves (and the show in Grand Haven!!) made up for it. That hot chocolate sure was yummy after sitting out this one...plug in mugs are COOL!

Cool pictures, Jen. Looking at the first one, it is almost like there is a window / opening around the tower - you can see the light blue of the sky in the middle of the wave.

I noticed that, too - thought it was kinda 'cool.

Sure does, Dave. You keep outdoing yourself, Jen. Some terrific pictures! Saw all these lights on our pre-post-reunion bus tour - wish I could see them now.
