Day Four

My day started with a brisk walk to the Pier Light and I noticed mother duck taking her little ones out for a morning swim, using her wake to bring along the babies.

Two Harbors second light looked good bathed in the morning sun.

On the way to Grand Marais (sounds like Marie), we stopped along the way at several of Minnesota's many falls. This one is Cross River Falls, shot from the bridge on HW 61. Not so on a lot of the other falls....as they took a little hiking to see.

This is a look at the lower end of the Cross River Falls

I found these unusual waxy yellow flowers along the path of the Falls.

These rapids were at Temperance River Falls State Park, a little ways up the road.

I really liked the texture of the fern against the bark of the tree.

This little guy seemed to be posing for me.

I hiked out to get a close up shot of the Grand Marias Pier Light, which was a considerable jaunt...quite an adventure...a challenge to get there with many obstacles and quite a distance.

I drove around to get a picture of the pier light from the other side. It looks like my little friend brought some of his buddies along to pose for this picture.

On the way back to Two Harbors, we made another stop at Split Rock to get a different look of the lighthouse. This was shot from the campground location by the shore.

I really liked what the late afternoon sun did to the lighthouse, providing a reflection in the calm Lake Superior waters.

Back at Two Harbors Lighthouse, for our last night, I shot this picture with a few more clouds to help the sunset image.

Lori, I shot Split Rock from the same two locations but with an early evening sun going down as oppose to yesterday's shot early in the afternoon..

You're posts and pictures are always interesting, Paul. I wish we could get more people to share commentary and photos of their lighthouse adventures.

Keep them coming!

Great pics as usual Paul.
I'll be at Split Rock Saturday and then catch up with the group on Sunday.
See ya there.

Wow Paul, what terrific pics... It looks like you and Sue took the scenic route through Chequamegon National Forest. The picture of the 3 bears was priceless. Larry and I didn't even see bears when we were at Yellowstone and the Tetons. I want to talk to you about using your pictures of the ferns for a quilt I have in mind. See you on the cruise!!

I checked the site tonight primarily to see what Paul was up to today. It's fun that you post your pictures during your trip. Nice photos again. I'm surprised to see such small ducks at this time of year. Looks like they just hatched this week. I'll be checking back to see about the bears.

Enjoy the Apostle Island lights!
